Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Tour via Nepal Border
The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Tour via Nepal Border is among the most profound spiritual journeys on earth. Mount Kailash (6,638m / 21,778ft) rises like a monumental pyramid of crystal and rock in the remote Ngari prefecture of western Tibet. It is worshipped as the spiritual center of the universe (Axis Mundi) by Hindus (the abode of Lord Shiva), Tibetan Buddhists (Kang Rinpoche), Jains (Mount Ashtapada), and Bonpos.
Commencing overland from Kathmandu, the expedition follows the scenic highway through the Langtang foothills to the Rasuwagadhi / Kyirong (Kerung) border crossing into the high Tibetan plateau. Journey across vast alpine plains framed by the high Himalayas to the luminous sapphire waters of Lake Manasarovar (4,590m), where pilgrims perform holy dips and ritual homas overlooking the southern face of Kailash.
The spiritual climax of the pilgrimage is the rigorous 3-day Kailash Parikrama (Kora) covering 52 kilometers. Hike along the western and northern cliffs past the golden chortens of Dirapuk Monastery, ascend to the high summit of Drolma La Pass (5,630m), view the sacred emerald lake of Gauri Kund, and descend to Zuthulphuk Monastery before returning overland to Kathmandu.
