Tibet Highlights Tour from Lhasa

Starting directly in the mythical high-altitude capital of Lhasa ("Lhasa Bata"), the 8-Day Tibet Highlights Tour is the quintessential cultural immersion into the spiritual and architectural wonders of the Roof of the World. Arrive at Lhasa Gonggar Airport (3,650m) or via the celebrated Qinghai-Tibet Railway to begin your journey through the heart of Tibetan civilization.

In Lhasa, visit the awe-inspiring Potala Palace, a monumental 13-story fortress-palace containing thousands of shrines, golden stupas of past Dalai Lamas, and priceless Tibetan Buddhist treasures. Follow the stream of prostrating pilgrims around the 7th-century Jokhang Temple and the lively circular market of Barkhor Street. In the afternoons, witness the dramatic philosophical debates of red-robed monks in the stone courtyards of Sera Monastery.

The journey then ventures westward over Gampala Pass (4,990m) for an unforgettable panoramic view of the radiant turquoise waters of sacred Yamdrok Lake and Mount Noijin Kangsang. Continue past Karola Glacier to the historic town of Gyantse to tour the Pelkor Chode Monastery and 100,000-Buddha Kumbum Stupa, culminating in Shigatse at Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama housing the world's largest gilded bronze statue of Maitreya Buddha.
